Gus Green Van Sant Jr. (born July 24, 1952) is a highly acclaimed American filmmaker, photographer, painter, and musician who has left an indelible mark in the world of independent filmmaking. His films often explore themes of marginalized subcultures and the complexities of human relationships. Van Sant's journey in entertainment began with him directing television commercials in the Pacific Northwest. His debut feature film Mala Noche (1985) received critical acclaim.
