Spoilers ahead
Enoch Brae, Henry Hopper is a teenage boy who carries the weight of loss in every moment of his life. A year has passed since his parents died in a car accident, and he clings to a heavy, almost clinical memory of them. He lives with his Aunt Mabel, his guardian, in a world where school feels unnecessary after a fight that led to his expulsion. He fills his days with a quiet, unsettling hobby—attending strangers’ funerals—while a strange companion lingers at the edges of his reality: the Japanese ghost of kamikaze pilot Hiroshi, Ryo Kase, who he begins to see after waking from a coma that followed his parents’ death. Hiroshi’s presence becomes a constant, a spectral reminder of mortality that haunts and, in a peculiar way, consoles him.
