Jesse White

Jesse White (November 3, 1917 – January 6, 1997) was an American character actor whose prolific career spanned more than five decades, making him one of the most recognizable supporting faces on both the big and small screens. Born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, White grew up during the Great Depression and discovered a love for performance while working odd jobs in local theater groups, eventually moving to Chicago where he honed his comedic timing in vaudeville revues and radio sketches. His striking bald head and expressive eyes became a trademark that casting directors prized for roles requiring a blend of humor and authority, leading to his first film credit in the early 1940s. Over the next fifty years White appeared in more than 150 movies and television episodes, ranging from classic comedies such as The Bad News Bears (1976) where he played the affable coach, to iconic cult films like The Big Lebowski (1998) in which his modest cameo was filmed shortly before his death.
