Wire FX

A stunt technique using harnesses and wires to lift or manipulate actors and props.

Wire FX refers to the use of rigs—wires, pulleys, harnesses, and cranes—to control actor movement, simulate flight, or enhance physical stunts. By suspending performers or objects on nearly invisible cables, filmmakers create illusions of weightlessness, superhuman agility, or dynamic camera-mounted “flying” shots. Wires can also rig props for precise on-set control during action sequences.

Professional riggers rig multi-point harnesses around an actor’s torso, distributing load evenly. Safety protocols demand redundant harnesses, soft-landing airbags, and rehearsed timing with camera and stunt crews.
