This separation gives mixers granular control over environmental realism and dramatic emphasis, enabling level tweaks or surround panning adjustments without altering dialogue or music. Effects stems must meet specification criteria for noise floor, headroom, and stereo or multichannel alignment.
Foley recordings (e.g., footsteps, clothing rustle) and editorial sound effects (e.g., car engines, crowds) are layered and mixed into sub‑groups—often separated into left/right, surrounds, and LFE—before final stem export. This structure maintains workflow flexibility, allowing re‑routing to immersive formats during Atmos or Auro‑3D encoding.
