• Quick Establishing Shot: When arriving at a new location, the crew might quickly grab a ‘buck shot’ of the building’s exterior or the landscape just to establish the geography before moving on to the more complex interior scenes.
• Basic Master Shot: It can refer to a simple, static, wide master shot of the entire scene. This might be filmed with the primary intention of providing a cover shot for the editor—a safe, wide view they can cut away to in order to hide a mistake or bridge a performance issue in the tighter shots.
• Second Unit Footage: A second unit crew might be tasked with getting various ‘buck shots’ of a location—general views of a city street, a wide shot of a forest—to provide the editor with B-roll footage.
