BT.2100

The ITU-R recommendation defining HDR television formats and transfer functions.

BT.2100

Overview

Rec. ITU-R BT.2100 is the international standard specifying HDR video formats, including both PQ and HLG transfer functions, wide gamut colorimetry (Rec.2020 primaries), and system color coding for broadcast and streaming.

Key Parameters

BT.2100 defines two EOTFs: PQ (SMPTE ST 2084) and HLG. It mandates Rec.2020 primaries and a 10-bit or higher bit depth. The standard covers metadata signaling for HDR10 and dynamic HDR formats.

Applications

Adopted by broadcast networks, OTT platforms, and display manufacturers, BT.2100 ensures interoperability across HDR workflows, from camera acquisition to end-user playback on HDR-capable TVs and monitors.
