Overview

This camera targets indie features, documentaries, and web series that want high-resolution RAW capture without the footprint or price of higher-end cinema bodies. It records in Blackmagic RAW (BRAW) and ProRes, supports interchangeable EF lenses, and integrates well with grading workflows centered on DaVinci Resolve.

Image Characteristics

The sensor delivers detailed 6K images with flexible debayering in post. BRAW enables variable compression ratios, ISO adjustments within limits, and consistent color science that grades predictably. Rolling shutter is present but manageable with thoughtful camera movement and shutter-angle planning.

On-Set Workflow

Dual native ISO assists in low light, while internal ND must be handled with front-of-lens filtration. Media options include CFast and USB-C SSDs; power strategies often involve external batteries for full shooting days. For sound, balanced mini-XLR inputs make single-system recording workable for lean crews.

Strengths and Limitations

Strengths include image quality per dollar, familiar EF ecosystem, and deep Resolve integration. Limitations are ergonomics for shoulder work, lack of built-in ND, and thermal/power management compared with bigger cinema rigs. Many productions cage the body, add matte boxes, and use external monitoring to professionalize handling.
