Vivian Wu: Movies & Box Office

Vivian Wu (née Wu Junmei) is a Chinese-American actress, born on February 5, 1966, in Shanghai, China. She is the daughter of Zhu Manfang, a leading actress in China during the '40s and '50s. Wu initiated her acting career at 16, starting with the Shanghai Film Studio, and later attended Hawaii Pacific University. Her big break came in 1987 with her appearance in the biographical movie The Last Emperor. She is known for her roles in a variety of North American and Chinese productions, including Iron & Silk (1990), The Guyver (1991), Heaven & Earth (1993), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993), The Joy Luck Club (1993), The Pillow Book (1996), and The Soong Sisters (1997). Moreover, she has starred as Dr. Lu Wang in the Netflix series Away (2020) and as Vivian Zhu in The Afterparty (2023).

On top of her film career, Wu has also established herself in the field of television, appearing in shows such as The Untouchables, L.A. Law, and Murder, She Wrote. She was one of the original four judges of Hunan TV's World's Got Talent and has worked in video games, such as Supreme Warrior (1994) and Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb (2003). In the personal realm, Wu married Oscar Luis Costo, a Cuban-born American director, and producer, in 1994, and later became a United States citizen.
