Terence Graham Parry Jones, popularly known as Terry Jones, was a Welsh actor, comedian, director, popular historian, writer, and a member of the well-renowned Monty Python comedy troupe. Born on 1 February 1942, his career spanned 50 years from 1966 to 2016. Jones was known for his innovation and surreal humor that often aired without punch lines. He made his directorial debut with the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which he also co-directed with Terry Gilliam. He later directed the subsequent Python films Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life. Jones was an influential figure in the world of comedy directing, often abandoning punch lines and creating non-sequitur story arcs for deadpan humor. Jones also co-created and co-wrote the anthology series Ripping Yarns with Michael Palin. He made significant contributions to Medieval History through his work as an author and a presenter for television documentaries about the period. In 2016, he received a Lifetime Achievement award at the BAFTA Cymru Awards.
