Lena Endre, born on 8th July 1955, is a noted Swedish actress primarily known for her performances in film and television, particularly in the Swedish and Norwegian markets. Her roles in the Liv Ullmann's film Trolösa (2000) and the Millennium series of films, based on the Stieg Larsson books, brought her considerable fame. Her acting career gained international recognition with her English-language debut in 2012, in Paul Thomas Anderson's movie The Master, where she starred alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Endre was born in Lidingö, Stockholm County. She initially studied marine biology before deciding to pursue her passion for acting. She participated in amateur theatre and was a part of the Teater Sputnik and Inge Waern's Theatre Studio theatre groups in 1979. She made her mark in the acting world after being accepted to the Stockholm Academy of the Performing Arts in 1983. Her breakthrough came with the Swedish television series The Department Store and Lorry in the 1980s. Endre was hired by the Royal Dramatic Theatre in 1987 and has since acted in numerous television and film productions, predominantly in Sweden and Norway. She has received a 'Guldbagge', a Swedish film award, for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 1997 and for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2000.
