Mikael Åke Persbrandt, born on 25 September 1963, is a renowned actor from Sweden. He has gained notoriety through the wide variety of roles he has played in Swedish and international cinema. One of Mikael's best-known roles in Swedish films is Gunvald Larsson in the Beck series of movies. His portrayal of Gunvald Larsson won him much acclaim, but in 2015, Persbrandt reported that he was planning to leave this popular role. Mikael's international fame grew exponentionally when he took the starring role in the Academy Award-winning feature, In a Better World which was directed by Susanne Bier. His exceptional performance earned him a 2011 European Film Award nomination for Best Actor.
