Our own 0–100 rating, built from five aspects: art, character, story, the sensory experience and how well a film rewatches.
- Art & Craft 85
ART: The direction and visual composition are highlighted for their understated elegance and creative cinematography. CHARACTER: Performances receive consistent acclaim for their nuance and emotional resonance. Critics highlight the depth of Skarsgård’s charismatic yet flawed father, Reinsve’s career‑best portrayal of volatile sister, and the supporting cast’s subtle chemistry. A minority note an over‑responsive tone in certain scenes. Collectively, the acting elevates the film’s intimate exploration of familial strain.
- Story & Flow 80
STORY: The narrative is praised for its layered structure and measured pacing, intertwining a film‑within‑a‑film premise with personal histories. Reviewers appreciate the clear handling of nonlinear timelines and the thematic focus on healing and memory. Some find the plot occasionally overly involved or too tidy by the end. Overall, the story maintains coherence while offering emotional depth.
