Sir David Attenborough is a British broadcaster, biologist, natural historian and writer whose career spans more than seven decades. Born on 8 May 1926 in Isleworth, Middlesex, he grew up in a university environment where his father was principal of the University of Leicester, fostering an early fascination with fossils, stones and living creatures. After studying natural sciences at Clare College, Cambridge, and completing national service, he joined the BBC in 1952, initially as a producer for the Talks department before appearing on‑screen as the presenter of Zoo Quest in 1954.
