Bernadette Lafont (born 28 October 1938 in Nîmes, France) was a seminal figure of French cinema whose career spanned more than five decades. Emerging from modest beginnings, she made her debut in the short film Les Mistons (1958) and quickly became associated with the Nouvelle Vague, appearing in landmark works by François Truffaut and Claude Chabrol that cemented her reputation as “the face of French New Wave.” Her magnetic screen presence, marked by a blend of naturalistic charm and rebellious spirit, allowed her to transition seamlessly from art‑house productions to mainstream comedies, accruing a filmography of over 120 titles that showcases her versatility across drama, comedy, and thriller genres.
