The premise of The Song of Roland without spoilers.
Roland des Roncesvalles, a famed 11th‑century French knight, is celebrated in the epic La Chanson de Roland for stopping the Arab advance. In the film, a troupe of 12th‑century pilgrims stages this legend using the poem, but their performance is shattered by a violent peasant revolt that kills many. One survivor joins the rebels and later advocates more just treatment for the oppressed.
