Dean Jones as Fredrick ‘Fred’ Bolton, a Madison Avenue advertising executive and Lakeville, Connecticut widower, is juggling two big problems at once. He is warned by his boss to come up with an original campaign in just 24 hours to sell Allied Drug & Food’s over-the-counter indigestion remedy, Aspercel, a test of creativity that could make or break him. Allied’s chairman Tom Dungan, Fred Clark, is pushing for a “jet set” appeal that will give sour stomachs class and dignity, adding pressure to Fred’s already precarious financial situation as he struggles to keep up with mounting bills and dwindling stability.

Fred’s other problem is his teenage daughter Helen Bolton, a bright and athletic girl who loves horses, takes riding classes, and has already competed in events.
