A boy named Troubadour Tikhon Zhiznevsky with extraordinary musical talent loses his mother early and makes his way to the city of Bremen, where he hopes to sing in the square for applause and a crowd that will listen. He carries a quiet dream in his heart even as life throws him into danger, and his gift for music becomes a beacon that draws attention in a city full of uncertainty. He is soon captured by child robbers and brought to their wary chieftain, Louise Mariya Aronova, a calculating leader who recognizes the boy’s gift and sees an opportunity. Louise uses the Troubadour’s raw talent to lure people into a spell of enchantment, letting the songs loosen purse strings and open wallets, all while the boy remains largely unaware that his melodies are guiding others to mischief. In this tense dynamic, the young musician’s dreams are fed by melodies, but his reality is shaped by Louise’s practical hunger for power and profit.

The trouble takes a sharper turn when the Ingenious Detective Konstantin Khabenskiy comes on the trail of the atamansha, a pursuit that finally forces Louise to retreat for the moment. The Troubadour is captured and imprisoned, torn from the stage he longs for. Years pass, and the city of Bremen evolves around new rhythms and new dangers, yet the boy’s longing to sing remains intact. Eventually, he is released and heads to the bridge where the old den of robbers once stood, hoping to settle the score with Louise and reclaim his dignity. Yet the world around him has changed: the den is empty, and instead he meets a troupe of wandering musicians who will come to symbolize a different kind of family.

The ensemble consists of an anthropomorphic Dog [Roman Kurtsyn], a Donkey [Dmitriy Dyuzhev], a Rooster [Askar Nigamedzyanov], and a Cat [Irina Gorbacheva], each with their own quirks and rhythms, all drawn to the Troubadour’s electric guitar playing and his stubborn, hopeful resilience. They invite him to join them as a soloist, and together they form a new, unlikely band—the Bremen Town Musicians—ready to test their music on a broader stage. They descend on the square to perform at the Dreams music festival, a gathering that will attract not only townsfolk but also the King himself, who is navigating a fraught relationship with his daughter, the capricious and ardent Princess [Valentina Lyapina]. The festival becomes a turning point, as an impromptu performance by the band earns the Princess’s attention and sparks a connection that hints at something more than just a shared love of song.

On the night of the festival, the King’s gaze lingers on the group, and he allows the Troubadour to dance with the Princess—though with a note of mockery. The dance turns into a playful test of affection, and the Princess uses the moment to flirt and even press the Troubadour into a kiss, making it appear as if he initiated it. The bold moment leads to consequences: the Bremen musicians are driven out of Bremen, back into the forest where the hunt for their fortunes resumes and the robbers once again become a looming threat. As they move through the trees, the danger intensifies, and the Troubadour spots the Princess concealed in a chest, a dramatic escape aided by the Cat that reveals the fragile line between loyalty and danger.

The Princess’s heart softens toward her new companions, and she invites the animal musicians to perform at a nighttime festival, a decision that the Troubadour initially resists but eventually accepts. As they rehearse on the road toward the festival, the Troubadour and the Princess grow closer, their bond blooming in parallel with the band’s rehearsals. They begin to imagine a future beyond the palace walls, even as a Shadow of duty and duty-bound expectations hovers over them. The Detective, summoned by the King who grows increasingly worried about his missing daughter, moves through the story with a sharpened purpose, and the stage is set for a dramatic night where love and duty collide.

On stage the night before the performance, the lovers come close to a kiss, but the Detective acts to protect the Princess, using a sleeping potion to render her momentarily unconscious and slipping away with her. The King, watching the tangled loyalties unfold, refuses to pay the Detective and taunts him, a cruel reminder of the personal costs that linger behind every public victory. The Troubadour resolves to return to Bremen to rescue his beloved, but his journey takes him into the heart of danger once more: he finds himself in a robbers’ den where Louise awaits, and his anger at her manipulation becomes a weapon that she uses to draw him deeper into her schemes.

Louise Mariya Aronova reveals a darker calculus: she will help if it means the Troubadour can “clear the forest of robbers” and open Bremen’s gates, even if that means manipulating a crowd to accept a new order. The plan succeeds in part, and the gates swing wide to let the troupe slip back into the city—but the price is steep. The Troubadour discovers that Louise has played him like a pawn, and a rift opens between him and the people he hoped to protect. In the ensuing clashes, the Troubadour ends up in prison again, and this time he searches for absolution, turning to the memory of his promise to his mother to “sing from the bottom of my heart.” The moment is captured in a quiet, haunting echo as the Ingenious Detective, nimble and relentless, steps into the cell to take the fall in his place.

The Bremen Town Musicians press on with an incomplete lineup, determined to reclaim their stage, and the Troubadour returns to lead them toward a chorus that could unite friend and foe. The group finally reunites with the forest’s dangers and the city’s expectations as they gear up for the confrontation that could decide Bremen’s future. In the dawn that follows, the robbers prepare a dramatic showdown: a mechanism known as the “Royal kick” is readied to expel the Detective, the King, and the Princess. The Detective appears to vanish at the last moment, leaving the Tremendous ensemble to press forward.

A final battle erupts as the Troubadour, the animals, the King, and the Princess fight the robbers to reclaim Bremen. The King then makes a bold leap beyond the city walls, and the group’s wooden cart—intended to carry what the crowd hopes to burn—almost becomes a torch for destruction. It is the Rooster [Askar Nigamedzyanov] who rises at the last moment to extinguish the fire, saving the troupe from disaster. In the aftermath, Louise is expelled from Bremen and falls into a swamp, where she encounters the King once more and confesses that her deepest wish is not to be feared, but to be loved.

In the closing chapters, a new union forms: the King marries the chieftain, and the Troubadour marries the Princess, with a grand ball held in the palace to celebrate. The animals, now deeply attached to the Troubadour, must bid Bremen farewell, but the couple’s decision to catch up with them signals a sense of belonging that goes beyond the city’s walls. The film closes on a note of hopeful arrival: music lingers in the air, loyalty is tested and reaffirmed, and a makeshift family of musicians—bound by shared songs and undeniable camaraderie—continues to travel together, turning a fairy-tale city into a living concert of memory and possibility.
