The King Gennadiy Gladkov is determined to bring his daughter back to the palace, and so he seeks help from a Genius Detective who arrives in dramatic fashion, singing about his own extraordinary skills. The Detective, Muslim Magomayev lending his singing voice to the role, is joined by two loyal royal guards as they set off on the mission. The atmosphere is lightened by a chorus of anticipation and a dash of theatrical flair, even as the stakes feel unexpectedly high.
Meanwhile, the Troubadour and his quirky entourage—a Donkey, a Cat, a Dog, and a Rooster—spend the day on a sun-warmed meadow. They sing, fish, and whip up a simple lunch, while the Princess collects flowers nearby, adding a gentle counterpoint to the main pursuit. The Troubadour Muslim Magomayev leads the cheerful parade, and the quartet of barnyard friends is brought vividly to life by Anatoliy Gorokhov, who voices the Donkey, Cat, Dog, and Rooster in this lively slice of countryside comedy. The contrast between the carefree meadow and the castle’s looming schemes creates a playful tension that threads through the story.
That night, outside the castle walls, the Troubadour serenades the Princess in the moonlit hush, hoping she’ll hear his heartfelt tune. Inside, a reconnaissance mission unfolds: the Rooster slips into the palace and discovers that the King plans to marry his daughter off to a foreign singer who is due to arrive the next day. The Rooster narrowly evades the pursuing Detective and slips away, only to encounter a trio of bumbling thieves who briefly capture him before he escapes once more. The delicate balance between romance, mischief, and royal politics grows more tangled with every beat.
The following morning brings a new twist as the musicians disguise themselves as foreign performers and stage a concert right outside the palace gates. The entire kingdom— King, Detective, and audience alike—finds themselves unexpectedly spellbound by the show. Amid the spectacle, the Troubadour manages to slip into the palace, inching closer to the Princess as their cover begins to crack. A cascade of chaos erupts, but it’s the bold escape that finally secures their freedom: the Troubadour and Princess flee hand in hand with their friends, greeted by the kingdom’s thunderous applause.
As the chase resumes, the King and the Detective become tangled in a comically elaborate trap, while the Troubadour and Princess ride away toward an uncertain, exhilarating future. The escape unfolds with a sense of celebration and whimsy, underscoring the film’s charm: music, color, and teamwork triumph over rigidity. In a final, playful twist, the Detective attempts to pursue them in a transformed airplane car, only to be politely foiled by the movie’s own credits, leaving the audience smiling at the goofy endnote as the credits roll.
