Ernest [Jim Varney] Worrell lands a job with a local mall cleaning service and quickly grows eager to help his coworkers succeed on the court. He tries to join their basketball team, the Clean Sweep, but is welcomed only as a mascot and cheerleader, a role that leaves the players regretting their decision after he somehow causes a last‑second loss in a crucial game.
In a moment of existential frustration, an angel appears to Ernest and grants him a pair of magical shoes, with a stern warning: Don’t misuse the shoes. The reward soon exposes a darker trick: the shoe store’s owner, Zamiel Moloch [Jay Brazeau], is really a demon in disguise. He schemes to derail Ernest by feeding his arrogance and using romantic entanglements with Erma Terradiddle [Stevie Vallance]—a money‑minded former shy girl who has transformed into a seductive showpiece—in order to win over Quincy, the son of Barry [Cylk Cozart], the team captain.
When a key player is injured and the team needs a backup, Ernest is given a chance to prove himself. The magical shoes unleash super speed and the ability to fly, turning Ernest into the catalyst for a string of spectacular wins. With his new powers, he leads Clean Sweep to the city league title and into an exhibition game against the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets. The town is thrilled, but the victory strains the team as Ernest’s flagrant, over‑the‑top style starts to wear on his teammates, and the pressure to stay in the spotlight grows.
Meanwhile, Quincy [Aaron Joseph] continues to chase a pair of tennis shoes he has his eye on, stirring further conflict as the demon’s influence tightens its grip on Ernest and those around him. As the zone takes over, Ernest contemplates stepping back and releasing his grip on the shoes, trying to wash his hands of Moloch and Erma. Yet the moment arrives when the team’s future hangs in the balance, and he must decide whether to discard the talisman or to embrace his role for the good of the squad.
In a pivotal turn, Quincy attempts to seize control, but the shoes are ultimately returned, and Ernest is needed again. He seizes the game’s final moment, delivering the game‑winning point, and the team’s efforts culminate in a stunning rise: the players catch the eye of a real agent, earning a path to the NBA after Barry’s skill is finally recognized.
