What Is Ernest in the Army About?

Ernest P. Worrell returns to base as a soldier, joining his unit to track down a ruthless dictator blamed for the wars ravaging a nearby village. Ernest, a golf ball collector in Valdosta, Georgia, dreams of driving a big rig. His friend, Ben Kovsky, tells him that joining the United States Army could let him operate large vehicles and never have to face real combat. He enlists in the reserves, but a turning point arrives when the United Nations peacekeeping commander and the British ambassador visit Ernest’s camp and insist that the entire unit, including him, be deployed to the fictional Middle Eastern country of Karifistan. The assignment is clear: assist UN troops in preventing an invasion led by the evil Islamic dictator Tufuti of Arisia.
