Drafted in 1917 into the U.S. Army during World War I, Stan and Ollie befriend Eddie Smith, who later dies in battle. After the war they go to New York to find Eddie’s daughter and reunite her with her family, but the many Smiths in the city turn the mission into a chaotic slapstick chase that outdoes their earlier film, “Pardon Us.”
