To understand the backstory, we rewind four days to Milwaukee, where one of the firm’s top lawyers, Tom Wilkinson, portrays Arthur Edens, who disrupts a deposition related to a class action lawsuit against U-North, a powerful agricultural conglomerate. Michael hurriedly heads to Milwaukee to bail Arthur out of jail, but during the night, Arthur mysteriously disappears from their hotel room. Meanwhile, Tilda Swinton, who plays Karen Crowder, U-North’s general counsel, becomes aware of Arthur’s possession of a sensitive document that reveals the company’s knowledge of the carcinogenic properties of a weed killer they manufactured. In a chilling move, she hires two men to monitor Arthur and set up surveillance in his apartment.

As the plot thickens, it becomes clear that Arthur is preparing to expose his own company’s misdeeds. To silence him, Karen gives the order to have him “permanently incapacitated.” Tragically, Arthur’s death is disguised to appear as though it were of natural causes.
