Anthony Joseph Gilroy, better known as Tony Gilroy, is a prominent American screenwriter, director, and producer. He rose to fame as the writer of the original Bourne trilogy (2002–2007) and took on the dual role of writer and director for the fourth film of the franchise, The Bourne Legacy (2012). Gilroy also demonstrated his talent through his work on critically acclaimed films such as Michael Clayton (2007) and Duplicity (2009), both of which he wrote and directed. His skills earned him nominations for the prestigious Academy Award for Best Director and the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Michael Clayton. In 2016, Lucasfilm brought Gilroy on board to provide rewrites and uncredited reshoots for Rogue One. He continued his affiliation with the Star Wars universe as the showrunner, head writer, and executive producer of Andor (2022–present), Disney+'s political spy drama series tracing the evolution of character Cassian Andor. Gilroy's earlier works include scripts for The Cutting Edge (1992), Dolores Claiborne (1995), The Devil's Advocate (1997), and blockbuster Michael Bay's Armageddon (1998). He launched his directing career in 2007 with Michael Clayton, which won an Edgar Award for Best Motion Picture Screenplay and earned several Academy Award nominations including one for screenplay. His directional prowess continued to shine through in the romantic comedy spy film Duplicity (2009) and The Bourne Legacy (2012). His work on sci-fi war film Rogue One (2016) has been notable, and he has made significant contributions to the Star Wars franchise.
