It’s Not Cricket 1949

Post-World War II Germany, under Allied occupation, sees Major Bright Basil Radford and Captain Early Naunton Wayne serving as intelligence officers. They are sent home on leave, but fail to notice that their new batman is the wanted war criminal Otto Fisch Maurice Denham. Fisch vanishes on arrival in England, and the two officers are punished with early demobilisation. With civvy street looming unclear and uncertain, they decide to put the skills they learned in the army to use and set up a private detective agency, Bright and Early.

They hire a secretary, Primrose Brown Susan Shaw, but business is slow since they have no clients yet. Primrose’s boyfriend/fiancee invites them to a weekend country-house party for a cricket match, turning a quiet social event into a potential gold mine. The cricket ball they purchase in London hides a valuable diamond, placed there by Fisch, who relied on his friend and protector Mr Felix Alan Wheatley who runs a sporting-goods shop.

As the match unfolds, Fisch and Felix watch from the trees, slip into the game, and steal the ball. A frantic chase breaks out, but Bright and Early manage to recover both the ball and the concealed diamond. The rescue propels them into the spotlight, turning them into celebrities and ensuring a lineup of eager clients. Yet Fisch continues to work for them, while they remain blissfully unaware of his true identity.
