Inuyasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time 2001

In Feudal-era Japan, half-demon Inuyasha, Kappei Yamaguchi, and his friends Kagome Higurashi, Satsuki Yukino, Miroku, Koji Tsujitani, Sango, Houko Kuwashima, and Shippo, Kumiko Watanabe, have just finished defeating a scorpion demon. But a fragment of the Shikon Jewel frees Menōmaru, Tomokazu Seki, who seeks to avenge his father Hyōga and to draw on the immense power that was sealed away with him.

The group’s victory is soon overshadowed by new danger as Menōmaru, empowered by the ancestral demon energy, begins to reshape the balance of time and space. Split from the main party, Miroku and Sango press on toward Menōmaru’s cave, with Sango’s faithful nekomata Kirara mysteriously gone. There, Menōmaru and his minions, Ruri and Hari, unleash a brutal assault. Ruri, Hekiru Shiina, copies Miroku’s Wind Tunnel, while Hari, Tomoko Kawakami, curses Kirara, forcing Kirara to follow Hari as her leader.

As the conflict escalates, Menōmaru taps into the demonic power of his forebears and becomes a new Hyōga, bending the fabric of time and space by draining the souls of countless people to merge himself with his family’s fearsome energy. He also curses Kagome with a mind-control shell on her forehead, driving her to pursue Inuyasha while she wears clothing in Kikyo’s style, a haunting nod to the past. The struggle drives a wedge between friends, but the cunning of Kagome’s will begins to flicker as she is pulled toward a fated confrontation with Inuyasha at a sacred tree.

Kagome’s mind is pulled back to the present when Kikyo appears, forcing Kagome to return to her own time. Back there, Kagome steps into a snow-blanketed Tokyo and glimpses the larger magic at work, realizing that the Sacred Tree connected to the well links her and Inuyasha in a deep, unspoken way. The two struggle with the emotional pull of their bond, and Kagome retrieves a piece of Kikyo’s sacred arrow from the tree, using it to travel back to the Feudal era and rejoin the others as Inuyasha is reawakened with help from Shippo, Myoga, and Kaede.

In the ensuing stand, Miroku faces Ruri in a duel of Wind Tunnels, Sango restores Kirara to her senses, and the friends unite to face Menōmaru’s growing power. The final clash pits their fused powers against the demon lord: Inuyasha unleashes the Backlash Wave in combination with Kagome’s sacred arrow, tearing Hyōga apart and ending his ruthless incursion.
