Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;Surrection serves as a fan‑centric epilogue that largely satisfies long‑time viewers while exposing structural weaknesses. Character moments provide closure, though depth is uneven, especially for newer antagonists. Overall, the experience is enjoyable for fans yet feels abbreviated, limiting its broader appeal.
The Movie Echo Score Breakdown for Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;Surrection
Art & Craft
In terms of visual craft, the film excels with polished animation and dynamic fight choreography. Reviewers highlight the high‑quality effects and consistent art direction, which elevate the viewing experience. Minor editorial lapses are noted, but they do not detract significantly from the overall aesthetic. Consequently, the artistic execution is viewed as a strong component of the movie.
Character & Emotion
When evaluating character work, the movie offers satisfying closure for established protagonists, delivering emotionally resonant scenes for fans. However, the development of secondary figures and new villains is uneven, with some personalities feeling under‑explored. The chemistry among core cast members remains a highlight, though the limited focus on a smaller roster reduces overall depth. This yields a solid but imperfect character impression.
Story & Flow
The story’s coherence is mixed; the film functions as a concise continuation that ties up major arcs, yet it introduces noticeable plot gaps and pacing irregularities. Early segments are described as slow, while later portions accelerate dramatically, leaving certain narrative threads unresolved. Although the conclusion provides a fan‑pleasing resolution, the abbreviated format hampers a fully satisfying narrative flow.
Sensory Experience
Sensory elements, notably the soundtrack and sound design, receive strong praise for complementing the visual spectacle. Reviewers commend the film’s music as solid and its audio mix as immersive, reinforcing action sequences. Combined with the high‑caliber animation, the sensory experience creates an engaging atmosphere that stands out as one of the movie’s most consistent strengths.
Rewatch Factor
Rewatch value is moderate to high for dedicated fans, who appreciate the additional moments with beloved characters and the film’s celebratory tone. Critics who view the work as a cash‑grab or unnecessary sequel are less inclined to revisit it. Overall, the movie offers enough nostalgic payoff to warrant another viewing, though its limited depth may deter repeat watches from broader audiences.

A year after the Zero Requiem, Nunnally vi Britannia Kaori Nazuka rules Britannia, backed by her bodyguard Suzaku Kururugi Takahiro Sakurai, who has taken the mantle of Zero. On a goodwill visit to a desert nation, the pair are unexpectedly ambushed by a Knightmare squad; Suzaku is quickly defeated, and they are abducted. The captives find themselves in the custody of Shalio Ayumu Murase and Shamna Keiko Toda, the sibling rulers of the Kingdom of Zilkhistan, a realm troubled by a peace that comes at a heavy cost: its primary export is mercenary soldiers.
Suspecting Zilkhistan’s involvement, Kallen Stadtfeld Ami Koshimizu, Sayoko Shinozaki Satomi Arai, and Lloyd Asplund Tetsu Shiratori infiltrate the country, crossing paths with C.C. Yukana and a physically resurrected but soulless Lelouch Lamperouge Jun Fukuyama. C.C. reveals that, after the Zero Requiem, their former friend Shirley Fenette smuggled Lelouch’s corpse to her and brought him back to life by reconstructing his body, though his memories and personality remain trapped in the collective unconscious. The group launches a bold assault on a Zilkhistan prison, rescues Suzaku, and uncovers an Aramu Gate—an opening to C’s World. C.C. uses the gateway to complete Lelouch’s resurrection, and he once again dons the mantle of Zero to rally Britannian forces, meeting allies and old comrades as they press forward.
Lelouch’s forces soon track Nunnally to a Zilkhistan temple. He infiltrates the temple and kills Shamna, but she activates her Geass and travels back six hours, allowing her to foresee his moves. Using careful deduction, he uncovers the mechanics of Shamna’s Geass and overpowers her. He frees Nunnally, though her mind has already been transported into C’s World. Guided by C.C., he journeys into the collective unconscious and succeeds in rescuing Nunnally. In the aftermath, Suzaku kills Shalio in combat, permanently eliminating Shamna. Lelouch, ever the strategist, passes the title of Zero back to Suzaku and sets out with C.C., adopting the alias L.L. as a symbolic marriage proposal in a new, shared path.
A post-credits scene, set in an undetermined future, shows L.L. and C.C. standing beside a mass grave in a forest. L.L. declares that he would strip Geass from those who wield it without resolve, a thread that leads into the picture drama where Lelouch and C.C. confront a pirate and she takes away his Geass.
