Dagmar Brink, Eva Henning, is a young woman who attends a wild party and sits at the piano, hoping to evoke something special with a requested tune. She begins, then abruptly stops in distress, and walks away into the night through central Stockholm. On a bridge, she encounters a drunk artist; after a brief exchange, he persuades her in a moment of frailty, and though she gives him money for his sketch, she does not keep the payment herself. When she finally reaches her apartment, she ties a rope to the ceiling and hangs herself, a decision that shatters the quiet of her building.
