On a quiet vacation at a lodge in Kanab, Utah, David Hewson, a Los Angeles lawyer, arrives hoping for a peaceful break from city life and quickly finds himself drawn to Beth Dixon, the lodge’s switchboard operator who also works as an assistant to the lodge’s owner, Edmund Parry. The setting is serene, but the routine is disrupted when the murder of playgirl Marsha Morgan—found with her throat cut—shatters the calm and pulls in a web of suspicion that spreads through the lodge.
