Experiment Alcatraz 1950

On Alcatraz, a group of inmates volunteers for an experimental serum that could cure a fatal blood disease, drawn by the promise of parole in exchange for participation. Among them is Max Henry Frank Cady, a practical prisoner who hopes the treatment might change his fate.

During the trials, the notorious racketeer Barry Morgan [Robert Shayne] steals nurse Joan McKenna’s scissors and fatally stabs Eddie Ganz [Sam Scar], then escapes, setting off a chain of investigations and shifting loyalties. In the aftermath, the medical tests are abandoned, and the vaccine is deemed a failure, leaving everyone to question what the project might still mean. Joan McKenna Joan Dixon mourns Eddie and clings to the possibility that the serum could help her brother Dick, hoping for a medical breakthrough that could save his life.

Dr. Ross Williams John Howard, the inventor of the medicine, and Joan push to understand why Morgan reacted with such violence during the experiment. Williams is brutalized by one of Morgan’s thugs, Duke Shaw [Kim Spalding], who warns him to stop pursuing the case. The danger intensifies as the pursuit leads to Lake Tahoe, where lodge owner Ethel Ganz [Lynne Carter], the dead inmate’s stepdaughter, confronts the investigators and even points a gun in their direction.

Ethel reveals a complex web: Eddie Ganz had hidden $250,000 in stolen loot, a find she has uncovered, and she is now married to Morgan, with whom she plotted the murder and the prison breakout. The revelations uncover a tangled conspiracy that ties together the escaped inmate, the stolen fortune, and the flawed vaccine.

Ultimately, Morgan and his henchmen are captured and sent to jail, and the serum is given another chance, leaving the door open for unresolved questions about trust, science, and justice.
