Reviewers commend the film’s lively pacing and youthful humor, yet criticize predictable jokes, a weaker second half, and occasional uneven acting. The Movie Echo Score Breakdown for Comali
Art & Craft
In terms of direction and overall craft, the film is praised for its brisk pacing and effective comedic timing, with several reviewers noting solid screenplay and competent visual execution. However, criticism emerges regarding the latter half, where direction appears disjointed and the narrative loses focus. The mixed feedback results in a moderately positive assessment of the film’s art and technical cohesion.
Character & Emotion
When it comes to character and emotional resonance, performances receive both commendation and censure. Lead actors are highlighted for energetic portrayals that engage younger viewers, yet some critics label the acting as uneven or overly exaggerated, and question the relevance of certain supporting roles. This blend of enthusiastic and critical viewpoints yields a mid‑range score reflecting decent but inconsistent character work.
Story & Flow
Regarding story and flow, reviewers appreciate the fresh premise of a post‑coma world and moments of nostalgic storytelling, but note that the plot often drifts toward predictable comedy and a politically charged subplot that undermines the romantic comedy core. The screenplay’s first half is described as engaging, while the second half is criticized for losing momentum, resulting in an overall mixed narrative evaluation.
Sensory Experience
In the sensory domain, the soundtrack receives mixed commentary; the background music is praised by some for its upbeat vibe, while others feel the score could have been stronger. Visual style is not heavily discussed, suggesting a competent but unremarkable presentation. The overall sensory impression is modest, reflecting adequate sound design complemented by average visual execution.
Rewatch Factor
Comali’s rewatch factor is buoyed by its nostalgic references and energetic comedic beats, which many viewers find enjoyable on repeat viewings. The film’s appeal to younger audiences and its lighthearted treatment of contemporary themes contribute to a reasonable desire to revisit. Nonetheless, predictable jokes and a weaker second half temper enthusiasm for multiple watches, resulting in a moderately high rewatch score.

In 2000, Ravi, Ravi Mohan is a school student raised with a strong moral code by his father, who teaches him to treat everyone fairly. He loves his classmate, Nikitha, Samyuktha Hegde, and tries proposing to her. Just then, a goon, Dharmaraj, K. S. Ravikumar escapes after killing a rival gangster, Gaja, Ponnambalam, and uses Nikitha as a human shield. Ravi is struck by a truck while trying to save her and falls into a coma.
Sixteen years later, in 2016, Ravi awakens. He reunites with his friend Mani, Yogi Babu, and learns that his father has died and his sister has married Mani, who has taken care of him all these years and incurred significant debts. Thiyagesh, the doctor who treated Ravi, Shah Ra, tells Mani to fulfill Ravi’s wishes since he has missed 16 years of his life. Fulfilling Ravi’s first wish, Mani takes Ravi to Nikitha’s house, only to realize she is married to Thiyagesh. Nikitha, not wanting to embarrass her husband, lies that she never liked Ravi.
Mani helps Ravi search for a wife on a matrimony website. Ravi falls in love with Reethika Mohan, Kajal Agarwal, whom he sees on the site and who is a friend of his sister. After some chats over the phone, Reethika takes a liking to Ravi. Still an innocent at heart, Ravi misreads her air kiss during a selfie as consent and leans in for a kiss; a blindsided Reethika slaps him. The incident is blown up by the public and the media, and Ravi’s sister scolds him for bringing more trouble and debt onto the family, while urging him to find a job.
Unable to secure a well-paying job with no formal degree, Ravi becomes a security guard at the museum where Reethika works. She forgives him, and Ravi begins to feel more connected to the world around him. He also spots a statue at the museum that he recognizes as belonging to his royal ancestors. Dharmaraj, now an MLA, owns the statue and claims he is the royal heir, using the statue as proof of his lineage.
Meanwhile, Ravi tries to find his footing in a modern world he once missed. He becomes something of a social observer on YouTube, his candid reactions earning him a growing following. With help from Reethika and Mani, he hatches a plan to prove the statue’s rightful ownership by livestreaming his confrontation with Dharmaraj using a button camera. The plan proceeds smoothly until a sweat drop short-circuits the camera. In a setback, Ravi recalls a school photo that featured the statue, taken by Nikitha, but Thiyagesh accidentally destroys the photo negative.
Determined, Ravi crafts another plan to outmaneuver Dharmaraj without relying on technology. With Nikitha and Thiyagesh’s support, he enters Dharmaraj’s house posing as a distant relative, while Thiyagesh acts as a scout. They distract Dharmaraj’s pregnant wife Bhanu, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, and Ravi attempts to switch the statue with a convincing duplicate. Bhanu catches him and goes into labor, but Ravi helps her reach the hospital amid a flood that floods the streets. In the end, Dharmaraj learns of Ravi’s good deed when he discovers that Ravi helped Bhanu and their newborn child arrived safely, and he thanks him.
Ravi eventually learns that Reethika filmed his earlier outburst at Nikitha’s house, critiquing society’s over-reliance on technology. The video goes viral, bringing in money to clear Mani’s debts. With the statue retained as a family heirloom, Ravi becomes a celebrated YouTuber who uses his platform to discuss social issues, proving that humanity persists even in a fast-changing world.
