Suryanarayana Varma, known as Unni, is released from prison burdened by a royal lineage and haunted by a past that won’t let him go. Flashbacks reveal a time years earlier when Unni had fallen for Aswathy, a compassionate medical student from the very Karimparakal family that despised him. Orphaned and controlled by her uncles, Aswathy was promised to a cousin, Prakashan. A chance temple meeting, followed by an autorickshaw ride, drew her into Unni’s orbit. Although she initially rejected him and even betrayed him to her uncles, the brutal assault they endured strengthened his resolve, and she came to reciprocate his love against all odds.

Their union provoked furious backlash. In a violent clash with Prakashan, Unni delivers a fatal blow and is sentenced to five years in prison, ripped away from Aswathy. His father convinces him that she has married an NRI, steering him toward burying that love and moving on.
