O’Hanlon’s concept for Fackham Hall was to create a parody of British period dramas that could almost pass for a serious film if watched on mute. The comedy arises from the contrast between the earnest performance and the absurd events occurring on screen, such as sumo wrestlers appearing in the background or a stag falling from the sky. He sought to cast the film as if it were “the real thing,” but with performers who understood the underlying comedic assignment.
