Trevor Bardette

Trevor Bardette (born Terva Gaston Hubbard on 1902-11-19 in Nashville, Arkansas) was a prolific American actor whose career spanned over three decades, from the late 1930s to the early 1970s. After graduating from Oregon State University with a mechanical engineering degree in 1925, he earned a Master of Science from Northwestern University, but abandoned a potential engineering path to pursue the performing arts, joining the dramatic club at his alma mater. His film debut came in the Hopalong Cassidy western Borderland (1937), and he quickly became a familiar face in both B‑movies and major studio productions, appearing in classics such as The Big Sleep (1946) and Gone with the Wind (1939) albeit in uncredited parts. Bardette’s versatility allowed him to embody a wide array of characters—rustlers, gangsters, military officers, and Native American chiefs—earning him more than 172 film credits and 72 television appearances. Notable television work includes multiple guest spots on Adventures of Superman, where he portrayed the villainous Human Bomb, and a recurring role as Old Man Clanton in The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp, appearing in twenty‑one episodes between 1959 and 1961. He also guest‑starred on popular series such as Perry Mason, The Andy Griffith Show, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and The Andy Griffith Show, often bringing a rugged authenticity to frontier roles. Bardette’s later years saw him transition to smaller parts, with his final screen appearance in Mackenna’s Gold (1969) as Judge Bergerman. He married Dorothy Virginia Chandler in 1927, and although public records do not detail any children, his extensive body of work left a lasting imprint on mid‑century American cinema and television.
