At the same time, a crooked businessman has bought the loyalty of the mayor and sheriff, and his henchmen routinely raid every wagon train that rolls through the region.

After serving in the army, Captain Buck Devlin and the cavalry troopers Sergeant John Maitland and Private Wilbur Clegg decide to settle down at Devlin’s brother’s homestead. Upon arrival, they narrowly escape a Native American attack, but unfortunately, they arrive too late to save Devlin’s brother, who is killed by faulty ammunition that explodes during a confrontation. Driven by grief and a desire for justice, the three men set out for Medicine Bend to uncover who supplied the defective ammunition. Along the way, they receive generous aid from the local community, who also lend them their funds to buy much-needed supplies for their journey.
