Matthew McConaughey

Matthew David McConaughey, born November 4, 1969, is an esteemed American actor. He initially gained recognition for his supporting role in the coming-of-age comedy Dazed and Confused (1993). His first success as a leading man came in the legal drama A Time to Kill (1996). His career continued to flourish with lead roles in the science fiction film Contact (1997), the historical drama Amistad (1997), and the drama U-571 (2000). In the 2000s, he starred in numerous romantic comedies such as The Wedding Planner (2001) and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003), solidifying his position as a sex symbol.

In 2012, he started taking on more dramatic roles, piquing global interest for his portrayal of a stripper in Magic Mike and a fugitive in Mud. His critical acclaim exploded after his stirring portrayal of Ron Woodroof, a cowboy diagnosed with AIDS, in the biopic Dallas Buyers Club (2013). This role won him the Academy Award for Best Actor.
