Lambert Nicolas Wilson, often known as Lambert Wilson, is a versatile French actor known globally for his exceptional portrayal of The Merovingian in The Matrix film series starting with The Matrix Reloaded. Born on August 3, 1958, Wilson had a passion for being an 'American actor' and a bit indifference towards French theatre in his teenage. His journey in acting began at the Drama Centre London, the place where he learned English. Interestingly, his first movie role was portrayed in the 1977 American film 'Julia,' directed by Fred Zinnemann. However, his real fame was found in his native land during the 1980s, where he became extremely popular among French audiences with his appearances in successful films including 'La Boum 2,' 'The Public Woman,' and 'Rendez-vous.' Besides acting, he's known for his musical theatre stints and his passion for safeguarding the environment.

Wilson's screen career hit a road bump with a series of box-office failures, such as 'The Possessed' and 'El Dorado.'
