What's After the Movie
Jason Alexander, born Jay Scott Greenspan on September 23, 1959 in Newark, New Jersey, is an American actor, comedian, director, podcaster and presenter whose career spans over four decades. Growing up in Maplewood and Livingston, he discovered a love for magic before turning to theater, eventually studying at Boston University before leaving to pursue professional work in New York City. He made his Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along in 1981 and earned critical acclaim for roles in The Rink (1984), Broadway Bound (1986) and the award‑winning Jerome Robbins’ Broadway (1989), for which he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. Alexander’s most iconic screen role came as the neurotic, scheming George Costanza on the NBC sitcom Seinfeld (1989‑1998), a performance that garnered seven consecutive Emmy nominations, four Golden Globe nods and a Screen Actors Guild award. Beyond Seinfeld he has appeared in films such as Pretty Woman (1990), Jacob’s Ladder (1990), Coneheads (1992), The Paper (1994) and Hachi: A Dog’s Tale (2009), and provided memorable voice work as Hugo in Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996) and the title character in the animated series Duckman (1994‑1997). In addition to acting, Alexander has directed numerous stage productions, including the 2023 Broadway comedy The Cottage, and has been a frequent host and guest on talk shows, comedy roasts, and televised poker tournaments. He is married to Daena Title since 1982, with whom he has two sons, Gabriel and Noah, and remains active in charitable causes such as the Scleroderma Foundation, the United Way and various Israeli‑Palestinian peace initiatives, while co‑hosting the podcast Really? No, Really? since 2023.
