A stunt double is a highly skilled and physically gifted performer who takes the place of an actor to perform dangerous, acrobatic, or specialized physical actions. These individuals are the unsung heroes of action filmmaking, responsible for creating the thrilling and death-defying moments that are too risky for a studio to allow its principal star to perform. Stunt performers are not just daredevils; they are elite professionals with extensive training in fields like martial arts, gymnastics, precision driving, high falls, and fire safety.
The primary goal of a stunt double is to perform a dangerous action safely, repeatedly, and in a way that is believable for the character. Stunt Double vs. Body Double
While both roles involve substituting for an actor, their functions are entirely different:
