Previsualization (commonly shortened to previs, pre-viz, or pre-vis) is a modern, technology-driven filmmaking technique that has become an essential part of any large-scale blockbuster production. It is the process of using 3D animation software to create a rough, animated version of a complex scene. Unlike a 2D animatic made from storyboards, previs involves building digital sets, creating digital stand-ins for actors, and using virtual cameras.
