Indiegogo Launch

An Indiegogo launch is a crowdfunding campaign on the Indiegogo platform, which offers both flexible and fixed funding options for a wide range of projects.

Flexible Funding

Indiegogo is another major player in the crowdfunding space, providing a platform for creators and entrepreneurs to launch their projects and raise funds directly from the public. While it serves a similar purpose to Kickstarter, Indiegogo’s key distinguishing feature is the flexibility it offers in its funding models.

When launching a campaign, a creator on Indiegogo can choose between two primary options:

  1. Fixed Funding: This operates on the same “all-or-nothing” principle as Kickstarter. The creator sets a goal and a deadline, and they only receive the funds if the goal is met. This is often chosen to build backer confidence, as it ensures the project will be fully funded before any money changes hands.
  2. Flexible Funding: With this model, the creator keeps all the funds they raise, regardless of whether or not they reach their initial goal. This option is highly beneficial for projects that can still make progress with partial funding. For a filmmaker, this might mean that if they only raise 60% of their target budget, they can still use that money to complete post-production or shoot a shorter, less ambitious version of their original concept.

Beyond the Campaign

Indiegogo’s flexibility makes it an attractive option for filmmakers whose projects are not necessarily dependent on hitting one specific, make-or-break number. It is seen as a slightly lower-risk platform for creators compared to the high-stakes, all-or-nothing approach.

Furthermore, Indiegogo offers a feature called InDemand, which allows a project to continue accepting contributions even after its initial crowdfunding campaign has ended. This transforms the campaign from a time-limited event into an ongoing fundraising and e-commerce platform, allowing creators to continue taking pre-orders for their film or selling merchandise long after the initial launch is over.
