The International Jury and Selection

The winner of the Golden Bear is selected by an International Jury, a small panel of esteemed figures from the world of cinema. This panel watches all films in the main Competition section and deliberates to choose a single film that they feel represents the highest achievement in filmmaking for that year. In addition to the Golden Bear for Best Film, the jury also awards several Silver Bears (Silberne Bären) for outstanding individual achievements, such as the Grand Jury Prize, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Acting Performance.
