Digital Imaging Technician

Overview

The digital imaging technician (DIT) bridges cinematography and post-production, ensuring that footage meets the director of photography’s creative intent while conforming to technical standards. They monitor exposure, color temperature, and lens metadata, and apply LUTs (lookup tables) for consistent on‑set looks.

Technical Duties

DITs set up and calibrate monitors, waveform scopes, and histogram tools to verify image integrity. They manage data wrangling—backing up raw files, transcoding media, and generating dailies for editorial review. They also troubleshoot camera and recording device issues.

Collaboration and Workflow

Working closely with the DP and colorist, DITs implement on‑set color grading presets to preview final aesthetics. They maintain detailed data logs, handle secure file transfers, and liaise with post houses to ensure seamless handoffs.
