It refers to the heart of the country’s commercial film production, which has historically been one of the most prolific in South Asia. For decades, Dhallywood has produced films primarily for its large domestic audience, creating a distinct cinematic culture with its own stars, genres, and traditions.
Characteristics of Mainstream Dhallywood
Traditionally, the commercial output of Dhallywood has been dominated by ‘masala’ films, a genre characterized by a potent blend of different elements designed for mass appeal:
