Exile of the Scandian royal family and Arthur's protection

Sligon and his Viking rebels force the Christian royal family of Scandia into exile. King Aguar, his wife, and Prince Valiant flee their homeland and seek protection. The family comes under the protection of King Arthur, setting the stage for their alliance with Camelot.

Valiant sent to Camelot for training

As a grown man, Valiant travels to Camelot to begin his training under Sir Gawain. Arthur decrees that he must become a knight through a squire's path, and Brack offers to take him on, but Valiant chooses Gawain as his mentor.

Clandestine meeting and meeting Gawain

During his wanderings, Valiant witnesses a clandestine meeting between Sligon's Vikings and a black-clad knight. He is discovered but escapes, and soon after runs into Sir Gawain, who becomes his protector and ally.

Valiant becomes Gawain's squire

King Arthur decrees Valiant will train as a knight through the squire system, and Brack offers to take him on instead. Valiant ultimately becomes Sir Gawain's squire, reaffirming his loyalty to Camelot.

Ambush and rescue by Luke's family; romance with Aleta

Brack's route leads to an ambush by bowmen. Valiant escapes with an arrow lodged in his back and is taken in by Luke's daughters, Aleta and Ilene. He and Aleta fall in love, but Luke disapproves of his Viking origins, forcing their romance underground.

Ilene falls for Gawain

Ilene is attracted to Gawain, creating a secondary romance dynamic in Camelot. This tension runs parallel to Valiant's romance with Aleta.

Gawain's ambush; Brack's disappearance; Valiant grows suspicious

While searching for Valiant, Gawain runs into an ambush by the Black Knight and barely survives. Brack, who had been guiding the search, disappears around the same time, fueling Valiant's suspicions of his treachery.

Camelot tournament and revelation

A tournament is held in Camelot in honor of Aleta and Ilene. Valiant dons Gawain's armor to win Aleta's hand, but loses the joust and is unmasked, only to discover that the winner is actually Gawain, who awakens to his love for Aleta.

Valiant's punishment and Aguar's ring

Valiant is confined to his quarters and forced to tend Gawain. A messenger arrives to fetch Brack, and Aguar's seal ring is tossed through Gawain's window, signaling that Aguar's family is in danger. Realizing his parents are at risk, Valiant resolves to return home.

Valiant captured; Brack revealed as Black Knight

Valiant is captured by Sligon's Vikings and the Black Knight, Brack, who is the traitor in the shadows. Brack has struck a pact with Sligon to deliver Aguar's family in exchange for Sligon's aid in conquering Camelot. The prisoners are taken toward Scandia.

Boltar's revolt and rescue attempt

A group of Christian Vikings led by Boltar stages a revolt and infiltrates the castle to assassinate Sligon. Boltar encounters Valiant in the confusion and orders him to give the attack signal after Sligon falls. A mis-timed signal triggers chaos and sets the stage for Valiant to act.

Valiant ignites castle and defeats Sligon

Valiant sets parts of the castle ablaze to breach the walls and throw defenders into confusion. In the tumult, he slays Sligon, sealing the end of the usurper's rule. This climactic move turns the tide in favor of the Christian Vikings.

Return to Camelot and Brack trial

Valiant returns to Camelot with Aleta and confronts Brack before Arthur and the Round Table. Brack calls for a trial by combat; Gawain offers to fight in Valiant's stead, but Valiant accepts the duel himself.

Gawain's truth and blessing

Gawain reveals that Brack betrayed them and blesses the union of Valiant and Aleta. His honesty redeems his own honor and clears the path for Valiant's recognition.
