In 2000, a bright, earnest sixteen-year-old named George David studies at Holy Spirit Convent College in Aluva, Kerala. He becomes quietly smitten with the village’s most talked-about beauty, Mary, the prettiest schoolgirl whose presence seems to light up the campus. George, along with his loyal friends Shambu and Koya, trails Mary with a mix of awe and hesitation, always on the verge of striking up a conversation but repeatedly pulled back by fear and illness of timing. Whenever George finally gathers the courage to approach, fate, anxiety, or another interruption keeps him from talking to her. George finds himself drawn to her instantly, and he senses that she might feel something in return. Fast forward to 2014, and a now thirty-year-old George runs a café with his childhood friend Jojo. The rhythm of life seems to have shifted again when he encounters a lively, twenty-two-year-old woman named Celine. He feels an instant attraction and learns that she knows Mary, tracing a thread back to the past. Celine and George become friends, and he feels compelled to propose, even as he recognizes the complexities of an age difference and the echoes of earlier heartbreak. Celine is on the verge of an engagement with Roney Varghese, a man whose cocaine habit poisons the relationship and sours the moment. Roney’s harsh treatment and constant banter test Celine’s resolve, and their engagement collapses under the weight of his behavior.
