Raúl Fuentes, a brooding police officer with a volatile temper and a drinking problem, is placed on unpaid leave after a brutal incident with Moncho Tristán, the son of a local drug trafficker. A snitch from the drug mafia, Mazuera, approaches him with a deal: he can provide documents that prove the Tristán family’s involvement in drug trafficking and prostitution, but Raúl must agree to reveal the full story only after Mazuera has left the country. Raúl puts the matter on hold and travels from Pontevedra to Alicante, where his family lives, hoping to keep a lid on the violence that has defined his life.

The return home is jarring. The visit, the first in two years, catches his family off guard, and his father, José, is clearly not pleased to see him. Their relationship has grown tense since Olga, José’s younger wife, was once Raúl’s girlfriend. Raúl keeps most people at arm’s length, with the notable exception of his twin brother, a figure whose warmth stands in stark contrast to Raúl’s hardened exterior. Back at Lolita’s Club, he offers Milena her passport and the possibility of a new life, professing his love.
