In the late 18th century Bundelkhand, a feared warrior monk known as the Gossain sets out on a brutal spree against bandits, driven by a relentless quest to locate his arch-nemesis, Rahmat Khan, who now commands Munerghah Fort after looting a royal treasure and slaughtering his overlord’s subjects. The loot belonged to Raja Hukum Singh Bundela, a theft tied to the regnal politics of the Peshwa Sawai Madhavrao, and the flame of vengeance burns hot as the Gossain tracks the thief through a landscape of blood, dust, and shrinking loyalties.

Meanwhile, a shrewd Tracker closes in on the Gossain’s life path, guiding a rival toward the elusive monk. A violent confrontation ensues, and the Gossain overpowers the rival and his followers, though he bears wounds from the clash. His journey ripples through the corridors of power as he reaches Rahmat Khan’s palace, where a lone The Widow rises to feed him, shelter him, and accompany him on a vengeance trail that will redefine both their fates. Though the Gossain resists bringing a companion on his mission, he relents after men threaten the widow, allowing her to travel with him as far as the Yamuna River.

On the political front, the Tracker negotiates with the Marathas, offering 20 gold coins in exchange for help in cornering Rahmat Khan. The next morning, with the commander still asleep, the captain and tracker find themselves accompanied by a band of Pindaris, setting the stage for a web of treachery, alliances, and escalating violence. The Gossain and the widow press onward until they reconnect with the Gossain’s Naga Guru, who urges him to abandon the path of revenge. Yet the Gossain reveals a painful memory: six years earlier, in Banda, he saved Rahmat Khan and his wife from a merciless dacoit attack, a debt that binds him in conflict with his target. After parting ways, the pair locate Rahmat Khan and his convoy, and a night-time assault ensues.

Captured in the dark, the Gossain’s plan unravels when the Gossain is restrained and the widow’s betrayal comes to light. The widow is Rahmat Khan’s concubine, and she has bore his son, a child now under his wife’s possession. The tracker leads the captain and the Pindaris to the meeting point with a British East India Company official—Theodore Munroe—to purchase new weaponry. The greedy contingent of Pindaris presses their luck, only to be repelled by the disciplined fire of British sepoys. The Gossain is tortured and names a man who sent him, a revelation that shatters Rahmat Khan. With a new alliance forged by necessity, the tracker, the captain, and the Marathas converge with Mahadaji Shinde’s soldiers, as the two sides collide in a brutal clash.

The Gossain launches an assault on the British official, while Rahmat Khan fights to blind his enemy, and the Marathas strike the camp with ruthless efficiency. The widow escapes with Rahmat Khan’s child, but the Gossain survives the onslaught and swears to return, severing trust with the widow as she bears the burden of betrayal for the child’s sake. The widow is captured, and Rahmat Khan murders his wife after she insults his child, sealing a tragic turn in the tale. The Gossain, now joined by the tracker who was left unpaid by the Marathas, continues his personal reckoning.

In a stark flashback, the narrative reveals that 25 years earlier in Buxar, conspirators gathered to thwart the East India Company, with Sadullah Khan among them. He is betrayed by his elder son Rahmat Khan, who aligns with Aadam Khan (Adham Khan), and Sadullah Khan is hanged along with his younger son, leaving Rahmat Khan scarred by the violence.

Returning to the present, Rahmat Khan kills Adham Khan in a bid to quash what he believes to be a conspiracy against his child. The tracker then leads an improvised assault with rockets that disrupt both the British and Rahmat Khan’s forces. In the chaos, Rahmat Khan attempts to flee with his son, the widow, and their followers, attempting to cross the river on a platform boat. The British flee, and the Gossain emerges from the river to strike at the fleeing group, leaping back into the water as a rocket again tears through the boat. The vessel sinks, and only the widow and her child survive.

The Marathas arrive on the scene, and the tracker departs, informing them that the treasure sank with the boat. Before Rahmat Khan is hanged, the Gossain discloses a final, devastating truth: he is Rahmat Khan’s younger brother, who did not die when he was hanged because a tiny metal pipe allowed air to reach him through his throat; he was found by the Naga Sadhus and raised anew. Rahmat Khan prophesies that his son will one day seek revenge, and the Gossain’s reply rings with fate and resolve: “On that day, I will attain mukti from this world.”

As the widow dies, she entrusts her child to the Gossain, who lifts the boy into his arms and rides away into an uncertain future, carrying with him the weight of bloodlines, vengeance, and an oath that spans generations. > On that day, I will attain mukti from this world.
