Badshah [Akshay Kumar] is introduced as the product of a harsh life in the streets: an orphaned boy named Babu, growing up under the influence of Sultan, a local crime boss who trains a crew of young helpers led by his nephew Abdul. As Babu matures into a skilled thief, he earns the nickname Badshah, becoming a professional criminal under Sultan’s wing. After a jewelry-store heist, Badshah and Abdul outrun the law, but the chase leaves them bloodied and on the run.

One day, a chance encounter changes everything. Badshah spots Sapna [Karisma Kapoor], a poor street performer who sings and dances for money, and he is drawn not just to her performance but to her resilience. He offers her a fortune to replace her torn clothes, and Sapna’s curiosity about him grows alongside her need for a better life. Back at home, Badshah faces Inspector Pradhan, and their exchange is sharp and tense—an ongoing war of words that culminates in a vow from the Inspector to end Badshah’s criminal era. A routine weapons exchange turns into a police chase, and a crash leaves Badshah badly wounded while the Inspector survives but remains determined to see him captured.

Sapna comes to his aid, nursing him back to health as Abdul plots to tighten the city’s police net. Sapna’s world is complicated further when her greedy uncle schemes to take control of her life, ultimately selling her for a bottle of liquor to a predator who stalks her. Badshah intervenes in time, saving her, and a bond forms between them. He confesses the truth of his life and hints at a possible future away from crime, even as he plans one last job to secure a peaceful life for them both. When Abdul is arrested after a deal with an undercover informant, Badshah finds himself cornered on a rooftop; he escapes but is left badly wounded.

Sapna’s uncle subjects her to humiliation, and the couple’s fragile dream is tested by social gossip and pressure. Badshah publicly declares his love for Sapna and announces that they will wed, even as destiny continues to pull them back toward danger. On the way to the temple, Badshah encounters the same informant who caused Abdul’s arrest, and in a fit of rage he kills him, escaping as the police close in. Sapna, meanwhile, is left to face ridicule when her wedding is postponed, heightening the sense of loss and longing that threads through their lives.

In a tragedy-filled twist, Badshah comes across a child who has survived a train crash and, with Sapna’s help, meets the boy’s distraught parents, Aditya and Mamta. The reality of parenthood and responsibility weighs heavily: Aditya fights to reclaim his son, while Mamta, who serves as a school trustee, forms a tender bond with the child without recognizing his true identity. Conflicts over custody erupt, and a legal battle ensues, leaving Badshah torn between his wish to keep the boy and the growing pull of a life he once left behind.

Seven years pass and Raju—now a schoolboy—enriches his life with new experiences and challenges. The police remain persistent, with Inspector Pradhan refusing to close Badshah’s file, while Abdul is released and returns to Sultan, who believes Badshah has betrayed them. Abdul discovers Sapna’s new reality, but she remains unaware of the full truth about Badshah. A courtroom struggle intensifies as Aditya seeks full custody of Raju, and Babu refuses to surrender the boy he has grown to love as his own.

The search for family leads to a dramatic confrontation when Sultan’s men kidnap Raju during a trip with Aditya and Mamta. In a desperate bid to rescue him, Badshah fights his way through danger, trapped in a cage and facing a brutal test of loyalty and courage. He manages to free himself and saves Raju, eliminating Abdul and Sultan in the process. In the end, the man who once lived by crime chooses to rebuild a life with Sapna, and together they join Aditya and Mamta to raise Raju as a united family, proving that love and responsibility can triumph over a history of violence. The film closes on a note of reconciliation and hope, with Badshah stepping away from the past to embrace a future built on care for the son he has chosen to protect.
