In the bustling city of modern-day Chicago, the story centers around Lou Marazano, a once-feared hit man whose reputation has significantly faded over the past twenty years of retirement. Struggling to support his daughter after her ex-husband neglects child support payments, Lou reaches out to Lorenzo Galante, the current local mob boss, in hopes of finding work. Although Galante is hesitant to give him a job, he eventually assigns Lou the task of eliminating several witnesses scheduled to testify against his former boss, Armand Assante as Stefano D’Agnostino.

As Lou carries out these dangerous tasks, he shows a rare act of compassion by sending flowers to the widow of one victim, Ralph Maloney, played by Danny Goldring. This seemingly innocent gesture catches the attention of veteran cop Audrey Francis as a forensics detective, who, along with her partner Elliot Walsh, played by Barret Walz, begins to reopen a cold case from the early 1990s involving a string of murders reminiscent of Lou’s recent hit jobs.

Despite being discouraged from investigating these killings, Maloney and Walsh stake out one of Lou’s targets. When Lou is apprehended at the scene but remains silent, police are forced to release him after his girlfriend and neighbors provide an alibi. Fearing Lou might talk, Galante orders him murdered. Lou, always one step ahead, manages to eliminate the crew sent after him, demonstrating his remaining skills and resolve. Knowing he must also take out Galante himself, Lou makes his way to Galante’s bar, where the boss threatens Lou’s family in a bid to frighten him. Unfazed, Lou retaliates by shooting and killing Galante, then showing a rare act of kindness by offering his gold watch to an elderly man nearby.

However, trouble arises when the police recognize the distinctive watch and realize that Lou is their prime suspect. As Lou prepares to leave the city with the money he earned, he receives news of his final target: the corrupt police captain. Meanwhile, Elliot Walsh takes charge of the investigation after Rachael Keller as his partner, frustrated by red tape, pushes forward. Lou, determined to escape his past, visits his daughter and hands her all his earnings, urging her to leave Chicago as well, intending to start anew elsewhere.

The plot thickens when Walsh and Maloney meet with their captain privately in a parking garage to share critical information. Unknown to the police, Lou is tailing them. The captain reveals himself as corrupt and, revealing his true nature, shoots and wounds both Walsh and Maloney. Before the captain can finish them off, Lou intervenes, killing the captain in a tense gunfight. As Lou turns to leave, a wounded Maloney and Walsh—who had survived thanks to his bulletproof vest—try to stop him. During the chaos, Maloney’s blurred eyesight from a head wound causes him to mistakenly shoot and kill Walsh. Incensed by Walsh’s death and blaming Lou for the tragedy, Maloney confronts Lou in a final showdown.

In a gripping climax, Lou pulls a hidden pistol, shooting and killing Maloney. As the rain-soaked night settles over the city, Lou walks off alone, burdened by the consequences of his violent life but determined to find peace far from his past. The story highlights themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the relentless pursuit of redemption against the unforgiving backdrop of organized crime and law enforcement corruption.
